When you have your home rewired
Ask the electrician to make sockets, switches, meters and consumer units easy to use by placing:
light switches in easy to reach places (not behind doors) at least 900mm (3') and no more than 1100mm (3'8") above floor level
sockets and other controls at least 400mm (1'4") and no more than 1200mm (4') above floor level in living rooms, bedrooms, halls.
Select large rocker switches for lights.
In houses, include a socket at a height of 500mm on the wall beside the foot of the stairs to make it easier to install a stair lift.
