Water saving measures
basics principles extras

Don’t waste mains water — it takes electricity to process water and deliver it to your home!

With Scotland’s climate, you might think that there is plenty of water to go around. On a global scale, 70% of the worlds surface is covered in water. 97% of it is salty, only 3% is freshwater. Of this 3%, is frozen, leaving less than 1% available for use by all the people, animals and plants on the planet. Just because we have more than our fair share in Scotland, doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t use it wisely.

Saving water also saves energy because power is used to process water to drinking quality standard and even more power to move it to where it’s needed.

Insulated water pipes

Insulate both hot and cold water pipes so that you don’t waste water by running taps for a long time to reach the right temperature.
