Efficient fixtures and appliances

European A to G labelling schemes tell you which appliances are efficient in their use of energy and water.

Choose fridges and freezers with an A rating – but also check the energy consumption because some of the best fridges and freezers are more efficient than others.

A fifth of water in homes is used by washing machines –water efficient models use only 8 litres per kg wash load – check for water consumption information on the energy label.

Tip

Don’t put fridges or freezers in very hot places (such as a conservatory) because they use more electricity to reach the right temperature.
