Collect rainwater to water the garden

Collect rainwater to water the garden

Rain falling on the roof is usually drained away into the sewers or local watercourses, but you can collect rain to water the garden instead of using drinking water. A hose can use 15 litres of drinking water each minute!

  • Collect rainwater in a rain water butt by fitting a diverter on a downpipe from the rhones or gutters — any overflow will go into the rainwater drainage system.

Tip

If the butt has a tap at the bottom, raise the butt enough to put a watering can beneath it.
