Crown Verification

Consultation

The SBS is working towards commencement of Section 53 of the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 which will remove Crown immunity from building regulations from 1 May 2008. This will mean that all Crown buildings in Scotland will be subject to building regulations and must comply with the same procedures and the same standards as all other buildings.

Between 23 October and 3 December the SBS undertook a limited consultation exercise on proposals for the implementation of a verification service for Crown buildings from May 2008. A consultation pack was issued to the many Crown bodies, Government departments and building consultancy firms previously identified during our earlier information gathering exercise and 1:1 meetings. In addition, copies were sent to local authority Chief Executives and building standards managers for their comments on the proposed changes as the verification role will sit with the building standards section of each local authority.

A full report on the responses received and a list of all respondents can be accessed here.
