The Building (Scotland) Act 1959, together with related regulations and standards remain in force for all Building Warrant Applications made before 1st May 2005. From this date, applications must comply with the new act, the Building (Scotland) Act 2003.

Regulations are made by Scottish Ministers, subject to approval by the Scottish Parliament and these are administered and enforced by local authorities.
