This archive section of the site contains information on the system of Building Standards that was in operation before 1st May 2005. It is only relevant to warrant applications made on or before 30th April 2005.
Information relevant to the current system, which applies to all warrant applications made from 1st May 2005 can be found on our main site, through the SBS homepage at www.sbsa.gov.uk
The Building (Scotland) Act 1959, together with related regulations and standards remain in force for all Building Warrant Applications made before 1st May 2005. From this date, applications must comply with the new act, the Building (Scotland) Act 2003.
The purpose of the building standards system is to safeguard people in and around buildings and also to promote energy efficiency and conservation and the provision of facilities for disabled people. Regulations are made by Scottish Ministers, subject to approval by the Scottish Parliament and these are administered and enforced by local authorities.
The information in this section is only relevant to building warrant applications made before 1st May 2005. Information on the current system, which is relevant to all applications made from the 1st of May 2005, can be accessed through our homepage.
